I've been tagged...

What I Was Doing 20 Years Ago This Month...

I was (almost) 30 years old and pregnant with my third child, Roxy. I had an 8 year old (Nikole) and a 6 year old (Tyler). We were getting ready for a trip to Disneyland. We didn't tell the kids we were going; we packed their bags and put them (the bags, not the kids) in the trunk. We told them we were taking a day trip. I looked like I swallowed a basketball on that trip. I also looked like I was about 45 years old. I've got video to prove it. In spite of my awkward appearance, it was a good time!

What I Was Doing 10 Years Ago This Month...

I was (almost) 40 years old, the kids were 18, 16 and 10. Roxy was learning to speak to people other than her family, Tyler was in his 'gangster' stage and Nikole was queen of the world. Now that I think about it, the kids have changed a lot since then, but my life is the same. I was probably Primary President at the time. I was working at Oakdale and teaching about a million aerobics classes. Life was busy and good.

What I Was Doing Five Years Ago This Month...

Working at Oakdale, teaching aerobics, Young Women President. Oh my gosh! I really need to get a life. I did have an awesome son- in- law and now, only one child at home. Became a blonde to get some attention from my husband. (It worked.)

What I Was Doing One Year Ago This Month...

No doubt the same things I am doing now. Working at Oakdale, teaching aerobics. Serving as Stake Relief Society Secretary. I am BORING!

Yesterday At This Time...

Oh, that was fun! Roxy and I were watching a DVD I gave her for Valentine's Day. 'Across the Universe'. Amazing...those Beatles songs never lose their appeal. I love spending time with Roxy with a Diet Coke and a bag of M & M's (that's an oxymoron!).

Things I Enjoy...

A new magazine, a good book, going to movies, eating fish tacos, hot baths in the winter, red nail polish, holding Addyson, blue, sunny skies, mowing the lawn, being with Brent.

Where I Would Like to Runaway To...

Snow Canyon, Barbados, St. Thomas, Jackson Hole, Lake Powell, San Diego...too many places to mention.

TV Shows I Like...

Medium, Cold Case, Without a Trace, American Idol, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? and almost anything on HGTV.

What I Hate...

Valley Fair Mall (I just found out I hated it today), winter after two months, Jazz music.

5 Joys in My Life...

1. Brent
2. Ty, Nik, Roxy, Brandon
3. Addyson
4. My sisters!
5. Music

Zumba! Zumba! Zumba!

Okay everyone! Have you heard of Zumba? It is a new fitness/dance craze. You dance energetically to Latin music. It requires hip and shoulder movement. A LOT of hip movement. I only decided to try a class because the fitness director at a facility where I teach asked me to consider teaching it every now and then. I told her..."Hmmm, I'll get back to you!"

So, I hear about a class and recruit some people to go with me. I placed myself safely and squarely toward the back corner of the room. But then people kept coming and coming and it was crowded and I couldn't see the instructor, so I bravely moved forward a bit.

Turns out when you get a bunch of women, loud and fast latin music and start moving, it is FUN! Really fun! And my worry that everyone would stare and laugh at me, turned out not to be true, because they were all watching themselves in the mirror.

By the end of the class, we were all doing that latin tongue roll thing and shouting "ya-ya!". Sometimes a girl just needs to let loose and have fun. Go do it. I dare you! As a matter of fact, call me and I'll go with you. Click on this link to view Zumba video.

Proud to be a tortoise!!!

A couple of weeks ago it was so snowy that I had to take my 4 miles to an indoor track. (Just shoot me...17 times around = 1 mile! AAGGHH!) Anyway, as I was doing my 14-15 minute mile (I walk fast, but I DO walk), I hear a woman literally yell, "WALKERS TO THE OUTSIDE! WALKERS TO THE OUTSIDE!" I thought "Oh my gosh, this lady is an Olympian!" I threw myself against the wall to let her pass (and to protect myself). As she passed me I noticed that she didn't LOOK like an Olympian. Her shoes looked like she gardened in them all summer. She had street clothes on. Anyway, she did a few rotations around the track and then suddenly stopped running and walked slowly, panting as she went. I now had to pass her. (I resisted the urge to yell, "SLOW WALKERS TO THE OUTSIDE!") She found some energy store from somewhere and passed me again, did one more lap and then left. I continued on for another 45 minutes or so. Classic story of the tortoise and the hare. I am a tortoise. Not the fastest, but if consistency counts (and it does), I get an A. Day after day, week after week, year after year, I keep going. I hope I can still be at it when I am 70! Go Tortoises!!!

Choosing 'OUR SONG'...

My 30th wedding anniversary is on August 16th of this year. Ya, I know! Pretty amazing. I love my husband passionately most days. I would marry him again, no question. But on occasion, he drives me crazy! For instance...we are currently renegotiating 'our song'. Or at least, I am. I don't recall ever agreeing to the one Brent says is ours. Who in their right mind would choose a song that begins with the lyrics, "Babe, I'm leavin. I must be on my way " ? Seriously.

Yes, we listened to Styx a lot that first year of marriage. Sitting in our cozy, little apartment. Gazing into each other's eyes. I like the song. It is romantic, I guess. Except some guy is leaving and the girl is left behind. Yes, he says he loves her (a few times). But does that make it our song? Who said? Why does Brent get to choose?

I like Tim (McGraw) and Faith's (Hill) song "It's Your Love". Here are some of the words;

It's your love, it just does something to me
Sends a shock right through me
I can't get enough
And if you wonder about the spell I'm under
It's your love

No one is leaving the other. They are simply expressing their love. There are others I would choose... IF Mr. No Way Is That Our Song Stubborn Man would even discuss it with me. So, as of now, we don't have a song. Pretty sad, huh? Especially since that big anniversary is right around the corner. I hope Brent doesn't hire a band to sing "Babe, I'm Leavin..." to me!
